Global Change and Economic Crisis in Tourism.

Organised by the International Geographical Union, the aim of the meeting is to discuss the relationship between tourism and development in the context of economic crisis and change, including global environmental change, and changing tourist behaviour and preferences. The conference will focus especially on the roles and potential of tourism for development, sustainability in tourism and relations between tourism, environment and broad global processes of change, highlighting different types of "crises".

This event will showcase and invite feedback on the work in progress of a project based in the School of Hospitality and Tourism at Thames Valley University. Graduate attributes in curriculum development through personal development planning.
Glyndwr University - 22nd September 2010
Organised by the Higher Education Academy, this workshop aims “to develop an effective conception and definition of graduate attributes (Gas) so that they can function as a touchstone and steer to curriculum development”, and consider how personal development planning (PDP) processes can best contribute to their acquisition. Issues to be explored include: how best to teach students to become conscious of developing and gathering the evidence for GAs; the most effective technology to support this process; GAs and employability; and opportunities for the development of GAs both within  and beyond the academic curriculum. This is the second of two workshops covering these topics, the first being held on 8 September at Swansea Metropolitan University.

Educating for the real world.

PDP in a meaner, leaner world.

This is the 10th Residential of the Centre for Recording Achievement. Reflective learning.

This online course, involving a weekly commitment of about 4 hrs, provides a broad introduction to the topic of reflective learning for those who are promoting this activity with learners. The focus will be the provision of practical ideas that are applicable to working directly with students. In particular the course will address issues of helping learners to start with reflection and to deepen their reflective practice in order to enhance their learning. ASET and QAA Codes of Practice for Work-Based and Placement Learning - New ASET Code Launch.

The revised Section 9 of the QAA Code of Practice: Work-Based and Placement Learning was published in October 2007. This meeting, organised by ASET, “the professional body for placement and employability staff”, will discuss  the QAA Code which is aimed at policymakers in HEIs who are involved in drawing up strategies and procedures regarding their institution's placement management system. The ASET Code of Practice has now also been revised to keep both Codes fully complementary.
